My 6 year old BO recently made a crazy comeback from a reproductive issue. While her energy is back, I noticed her appetite was not (except hunting bugs and eating high protein treats), and that in addition to green diarrhea and a slow-emptying water balloon crop, she started vomiting large amounts of putrid, sour-smelling fluid (this just witnessed an hour ago).

I decided to race to get her some monistat cream to start treatment tonight (also ordered medistatin but it'll be some time before it arrives). I squeezed a beakful in her, at first. Then just wanted to give her a touch more. The second time, way more came out than intended, and she gobbled it up before I could take some out.

Should I be concerned about an overdose? It's so hard to tell how much she got. I was aiming for 1/2 tsp, but once I start squeezing it's hard to see how much goes in. She may have gotten as much as a tsp--maybe a little more. Again, it's really easy to administer but so hard to tell. Any insights are much appreciated. I'm very anxious and mad at myself.

Please don't beat yourself up! I don't think it's possible to OD on monistat, but I've not had to use it on a bird yet. I hope all ends well.
Thank you, that's good to hear. I couldn't find anything on it from my online searches.

It's been such a saga with this girl. And she's the sweetest. Vet suspected a tumor earlier this Spring, before she fell ill, so I was prepared but still fighting for her. A week ago I was sure she was about to die--huge belly, struggling to breathe, smelling of death/rotten meat. So I stopped treatment and was about to have her euthanized when the next day she was the first one up and was chomping at the bit to be let out. I kept watching, confused and in awe, as day by day she gained her energy back, her swelling improved, and her breathing got better. Unfortunately, while the underlying issue resolved for now, it seems it caused sour crop which has made her go from smelling like a zombie chicken (when she was near-death) to a chicken who was dunked in a barrel of rancid sauerkraut. She's SUCH a fighter--and I don't want to fail her!

Anyway, thanks for your kind remarks. You've helped me calm my mind a bit 😊

Chickens. They like to make us crazy don't they. Hope she's out of the woods. Can we get a pic of this mind-bender?

To update, she is still going strong, but the monistat is slow to work. I think it's gotten better in that her crop mostly empties overnight and isn't nearly as big, but I still notice a sour smell when dosing her, and she isn't yet eating/pooping normally. I'm worried about her getting enough calories as her poop indicates starvation, though her energy is up and she seems to be very bright and spunky. Medistatin arrives Tuesday, and I'm hoping that'll do the trick if the monistat fails.

Anyone know how long it takes for monistat to kick in if it's working?
