We need to start administering some new medication to one of our ducks, and we're looking for any suggestions.
The primary medication is Pyrimethamine. It's a liquid (apple flavored!), and it needs to be given orally 1/day for 2-4 weeks at a dose of 0.15 ml. She also will be taking Sulfa Trimethoprim 2x/day for seven days. We have three tablets, and we're supposed to crush each and mix with 5cc's water, and administer 0.5cc's 2x/day. Finally, we are supposed to give her folic acid (1-8mg). Any suggestions on using liquid or tablet folic acid?
We're wondering if the mixing any of the meds in the same syringe is a bad idea (trying to avoid multiple syringes down her throat daily).
We're alternatively wondering about making a paste like we've done in the past and having her consume some of the meds that way. Again, though, worried about mixing.
Any thoughts anyone has would be greatly appreciated. She is the duck that likes to be handles least, and we'd like to lessen stress anyway we are able while at the same time making sure she gets her meds on board.
Thanks in advance.
