Help Post Vet

I am curious why you wormed her while on Reglan? Reglan is known to have drug interactions with MANY different drugs. I also don’t think the wheezing now is from her eating food it is most likely from the Reglan. Reglan can make asthmatic and respiratory symptoms worse. In some cases it did lead to secondary respiratory failure. It also has common side effects of lethargy, fatigue and dizziness. I say all of this as someone who was on Reglan and stopped taking it because the side effects were not worth it. Also none of what you described is your husband’s fault so don’t blame him.

Wow - all that is good to know about Reglan. Wonder why the vet would prescribe that given the symptoms presented. Just goes to prove - the best "vets" are the people on this site.

Wow. The Vet specifically said to keep her on the Reglan as it helps to empty the crop. I am not a vet. And he also agreed to 3, am doses of Sageguard paste just incase of gapeworm because it gets very hot & humid here still.
As for my husband, you, nor the rest of you wanting to chime in about that don't know him. He is an irresponsible alcoholic since retiring and routinely passes out and forgets about the chickens altogether. He feeds them relentless junk treats before that, up to 5x a day and thinks it's smart to feed them long grass clippings. Anything i try to teach him as basic as fresh daily water his reply is...what are you, a chicken expert? So unless you've walked in my shoes......... I will stop the Reglan & see what happens. Thank you for your response. Just trying to help my chicken.

That sounds like an unfortunate situation for everyone.

Had a very wheezy lethargic hen just shy of 2yrs old. Took her to the vet. Her crop was impacted( hubby didn't allow time for evening grit I think) They kept her for 4hrs. 02 & shot of Reglan. Sent her home with abt. Reglan oral took 6 days to get. Though she was pooping & doing better she started wheezing again after 7 days of 14day abt. On the 15th day she literally flailed her neck around gasping for air & went literally limp. We knew she was going to die, she could not breathe & could hear the gurgles. Found YT video on sour crop after abt and we took her outside limp held her almost upside down with straight neck after syringing baking soda h20 in the throat & browning saliva like stuff came out of her beak as I massaged her crop. We put her back up, she popped alert but not for long so we did it again, I could hear & feel the liquid moving & up it came again. After the 3rd time she was like her old self. Seemed like a miracle! Know I'm lost. We held food for 24hrs continued Reglan. She got very restless in the cage. Day 2 tried plain yogurt, she wouldn't touch it after trying it. Scramled egg 1/2 she ate it all. Next day scrambled egg mixed with yogurt & decided to start miconazole 1/2inch 2x a day for 7 days. She's 3 days in. Fruday I couldn't be home. Hubby let her out!!! Let her eat feed and fill her crop and when I got home she was wheezing all over again. Reglan did not fully empty crop that night but this morning it seems to be empty. How do I integrate her back to eating? Do I need to finish the yeast treatment? BTW yesterday gave safeguard paste just incase it's gapeworm? I'm at a loss. She's isolated and antsy when she starts feeling better but clearly can't just eat crumble til she's full. Also her voice is still hoarse. She lays eggs most days. Today I'm back to scrambled egg. I'm just tired. I love her but it's been almost 3wks now & idk how to get her back to being able to be with her sisters & eat notmally.normally. I have attached the before and after of milking the crop to expel liquid. The almost $500 vet visit only gave us the Reglan which does help empty the crop.
I found that Epsom salt drink - 3 ml each time and 3 times a day help with sour crop. After administered 1ml, stop to massage the crop, do that 3 times.

One of my chicken was sick, went to the vet got antibiotic. The antibiotic treated the other condition but left my chicken with sour crop...etc.... In the end I gave it epsom salt drink and it was cleared after a few days.

Thank you. We did baking soda water & that worked. The problem I'm left with is she is keeps having trouble breathing, especially when it's muggy out or I pick her up. It comes & goes but seems worse as her crop fills. I'm just at a lose with her. I don't want her to have trouble breathing & I just cannot figure this out. Poop is 100% normal just trouble breathing on & off.

It is hard caring for sick chicken and not sure what is wrong with her. Be patient and hang in there.

If she is eating and drinking normal = good sign. Poop 100% normal is a good sign from my experience.

From my experience with my chickens, let her rest after treatment and see how it goes. I used to be so worried and do many things as I did not want my chicken to die.

We are having a scorching hot weather over here, all my chickens are breathing with open mouth. I put ice in their water, every now and then soak them in water a bit and they cooled down for a little while.
