I am now living in Northern Myanmar and decided to build an Adobe over. Fortunately the is plenty of building material to make it happen (clay, hay, sand, etc) except for the cooking surface (fire bricks are not available). Can I make a cooking surface out of Adobe or concrete? Any advise most welcome. Thanks!

Don't use concrete, unless you can get "Refractory mortar mix". regular old concrete will flake under the heat of a fire built directly on it and that is not good eats.

I think the right mix of mud bricks might work, try them in a fire before building an oven with the though. If they won't work, I would hate to have to tear apart an entire oven to replace them.

Maybe try the concrete if you have nothing else, but heat it up slowly and cool it slowly to help prevent pitting.
