ADOR1 Automatic Coop Door?

After talking to Rod again, he is sending me a new door and I will send back the old one for him to study. For anyone having trouble with their door, he has been really helpful and I can find no fault with the customer service so far! I think any company will have a couple faulty items, but his willingness to swap mine out for a new one shows me that they stand behind their products and that this is not a COMMON problem.

Well, after working on my door this past weekend and it opening fine on Sunday and Monday morning, it only opened 1/2 way again. Back to the drawing board.
I had initially set out to install my ador directly onto the plywood front of the coop. When I drew up the screws, I notices the rails flexing because there was a warped area in the plywood. I was worried that the rails would bind, so I removed the door, installed interior 2 X 4 framing support and drew the plywood up to the frame before reinstalling the ador over the opening. Even then it was necessary to back off the pressure from a couple of screws to be sure that they were not flexing or twisting the ador door track. I wanted to be sure that the door did not drag in the track or against the front of the coop when opened.

Have you considered uninstalling your door completely and just fastening it to a sheet of plywood or something flat for a few days or for about a half hour of the continuous cycling just to be sure something else isn't causing the problem?

I've considered a lot of things, but it doesn't make sense that it works for a few days and then the problem starts again.
Unless the wood is moving (warping) with changes in temperature and humidity and causing track or door to bind.

That's the only thing I can think of other than a defective motor, but I want to buy a new battery first...just in case.

The door is attached over 2 planks (vertical planks), and they were all rough cut at a saw mill, so no two planks are exactly the same. Perhaps they are moving with the temps and humidity. If the new battery doesn't solve the problem, I am thinking of buying a 3/4" piece of plywood, cutting it to size, and rehanging the door.

Has anyone experienced problems with dove flying in the door, then not being able to get out? Does anyone know of a way to keep dove from flying in?

Thanks,

I got home from driving my school bus this morning around 9am, and I didn't see the chickens in the run. The door only opened an inch this morning!

They're flying in and out of the ADOR. It is a completely enclosed run
It must not be completely enclosed with small enough wire if the doves are still getting in.
You need to use a wire/fencing with holes a size smaller than whatever bird/predator you are trying to exclude.
