ADOR1 Automatic Coop Door?

Hello. Yes, I did build the opening around the door. The coop is brand new, so... I had the benefit if customize the opening to fit the Ador perfectly.
There have been a few times when the hens are still outside when the door closes & the rooster gets caught inside by himself. I still have to look into programming it for that last call option.

We got to do the same thing with ours, custom made it for the Ador. Looks great, you will LOVE it! Weird yours closes so early, I think mine closes really late all the hens are in and its still open, I need to shut it earlier so the rats and mice don't come in after all the girls.

I don't think that the door is closing that early. I live in Texas & it usually closes between 8:10-8:25pm. There have only been a couple occasions that, that happened. Btw: the coop is pretty much predator proof. The hardware cloth has very small openings & it fastened from the outside of the run & it reinforced with wood trim/fasteners all around. The bottom of the run is on a concrete foundation. This did 2 things....made the whole thing level & prevents animals from digging underneath. The chickens should be completely safe, even if left outside at night.

I have a question about this door- I'm wanting a door that I can have open at a set time in the morning (so they don't come out and wake us up at 6 a.m. in the summertime) and close when it gets dark at night. Or at the very least, a timer option as opposed to the light sensor option. Does this door have a timer option?

Thanks, yeah- there was no mention of timers on the website, but I was hoping.

Hello Junko! I own the Ador version. Honestly, I would go with the chickendoors.com pullet-shut version. It will allow you to set the exact time in which the doors opens & closes.
I have the Ador one & it is just WAY too inconsistent!
Sometimes the door closes @ 8 pm & other times @ 9. My birds like to go in late & they always get caught outside.
I myself, will be switching to the pullet-shut version. I wish that I had gone with that one the very first time & looking forward to getting one.

"DELAY ON OPEN (DOO) and DELAY ON SHUT (DOS): These are future features. The ADOR is not primarily designed to be used with a clock timer, but it can be. Clock timers do not change with the seasons and need to have power backup. But DOO and DOS are relative delay times that operate off of detection of the events of SUNRISE and SUNSET. Please look for announcements for the availability of new features on the website. The board can be mailed in for upgrades (please contact us for details).
USING A CLOCKTIMER: You can buy the external photosensor and enclose it with a small light bulb (like $1 night light) plugged into a simple clocktimer run off house electricity.
MANUAL SWITCH: If you just want to be able to manually command the door open or closed remotely, you can buy the EXTERNAL CONNECTOR option and run the wires to an ON/OFF switch. A plain light switch from the hardware store will do. Plug it where the external photosensor plugs in. Switch OFF = NIGHT or SHUT. Switch ON= DAY or OPEN. CUSTOMER PROGRAMMING"



This is from website instructions, the door works great but the programming is a little confusing if you want to change it..but sounds like you can put it on your own timer with a nightlight (your timer would turn the "nightlight" on and off, triggering the sensor).

Correct !! Now i had trouble with my 10 week old RIR's getting caught outside with the door
shut many times. The problem was immediately resolved by making a program change
to close the door later and i turned on last call in programming.
Since i have done those 2 things, there has not been one single time that i have went out
to check on them in the evening and found anyone locked outside. The ador has worked flawlessly
every single time. Its direct drive and operates on a cheap 6v lantern battery.
I see no down side to this door. You just need to option the programming / hardware for your specific needs.

Sounds like you would just need to adjust a couple of settings and would be good to go. Set the LIGHT SENSITIVITY SETTING to OPEN LATE / CLOSE EARLY and turn on the last call if needed.

I have had my ador installed since September on all of the factory pre-sets, and not once have I had a chicken left out for the night. The only time it hasn't opened was 2 days when the sleet froze the door shut. I'm still on the original battery BTW.

LIGHT SENSITIVITY SETTING - BASIC FEATURE


Then we have a couple of basic features that can be re-programmed. One feature is that you can change the light sensitivity to one of three levels. The resultant is to: OPEN EARLY / CLOSE LATE; or OPEN LATE / CLOSE EARLY; or the factory setting which is to OPEN and CLOSE pretty close to the published Sunrise and Sunset time for your location. Expect minutes of variation depending cloud cover.

LAST CALL - BASIC FEATURE

Another basic feature that is re-programmable is what we call "Last Call". The idea is some chickens may dilly dally and the door may close while they chase after a cicada or June bug, or whatever chickens may be distracted by at a time when they should seriously be thinking of entering the coop to roost. So the door closes as there's that one or two of your girls who missed the boat. No worries. Not if you have enabled "Last Call". If Last Call is enabled, then the door will open up again after a few minutes and stay open for a short period of time and then close finally for the night.
