Adult Female Medical Emergency

Sometimes when they first start to lay it takes a while to get going and can lay some weird looking things, hopefully this is just a fluke and won't happen again. How does her vent look? the most important thing when they have a prolaspe in not letting it get dried out, so soaking in warm water using Prep H and or honey will all help to keep the tissue healthy till it goes back in. Hopefully this won't happen again. make sure your layers have plenty of Oyster shell to keep their calcium level good during egg laying season. and even though they free range they still need some good quality feed .

It is possible it was some kind of growth that her body dealt with. This makes me want to start a collection of these kinds of things to send to a veterinary association.

Her vent seems closed and is covered with feathers like normal. However, she seems really distressed. At least some of the distress is surely caused by her separation from the rest of the flock. (I have her quarantined so I can monitor her feed and water intake as well as egg production. She didn't lay an egg this morning.

Okay I have something to share now, don't know if it was duck or chicken since some of my ducks do lay in the chicken nest boxes, but when I went to collect eggs I found a very strange colored egg smashed with someting like thick clear goo, I wish I hadn't thrown it away but not sure who laid it, I have a Brahma hen who is going on 5 that has been going into the nest boxes like she was going to lay but hasn't laid in a long time, I'm wondering if it is her. I'll have to check vents this evening when everyone goes in to bed. But just thought I'd share my experience with a strange one too. I'm sure she is probably feeling separation anxiety being away from the flock.
