Adventure in homemade Incubator Assembly

What does an incukit entail? Is it a thermostat?
Will there be a fan?
How tightly sealed will the lid be to the aquarium base? Make sure there is some air flow. A few vent holes so your eggs can breathe.
Looking great so far! I’m now wondering abut ceramic bulbs for mine...

The Incukit is a heater, fan, and thermostat all in one. You can check it out here;

I added in two 1x 1.5 inch holes up front, and then I have a 2x3 inch hole in each corner in the back. The lid doesn't seal air tight. A misaligned light keeps it looser than I planned but it can still work. SO there is space for air flow, maybe more than planned though. I can always get very thin insulation board and go around the top to add in more heat holding. The lights also produce a bit of heat as all i could find that were small were normal 40 watt light bulbs.

I decided to toss a thermostat into the incubator to see how much it is throwing out, and how much it will effect the temp of the kit once i put it in.

Oh that’s pretty cool! Would save a ton of wiring lights to thermostats. I guess the lights would work as supplemental heat and the incukit won’t have to work as hard.

I was having a debate with myself on whether to go with these or an LED set on the top. These seemed more durable in the long run fixture wise. Plus if the size does prove to be a problem the lights can produce heat. They will also be over my water pans so that should also help with a bit of the humidity too. At least that is my hope. Nothing in this project has worked out as I have planned out.

I am hoping with this set up I can finally get some eggs to grow and hatch this time around.

It’s looking great from my perspective, please update when you start hatching with it :)
I loved the idea of an aquarium for the viewing window aspect. I was just struggling with insulation and keeping the lid air tight so I went a different route.

I will let you know how things go. I still have plenty to set up yet. I also have to make sure the lights stay up don't do anything funny. The temp will go up at least by a few degrees for sure with the light bulbs. It went up from 77 to 83 degrees.

I can see i may have a problem with my pans and ducklings falling into them. I will need to fix that at some point before hatching.

What about making a cover for the pans with hardware mesh or something similar?
Oh! And put something non slip on the bottom. Shelf liner or paper towel or whatever. Don’t want the little ducks to lose their footing :)

As long as the temp stays comfortably under 99.5 with just the light bulbs I think they’ll be an asset actually. It’s a big space for the incukit to heat.

I did a bit of a look about and saw that someone else did a box similar in size to the 20 long tank. So I am hoping that it can handle it.

I can look for a hardware mesh to put over the pans but they will be filled with sponges in the end.

I looked at my new Welsh eggs tonight, I ended up sad because my flashlight tipped over and hit one of the eggs cracking it. I hope the rest make it to lock down in the new incubator.

Oh no! Was it too far gone to repair?
My hygrometer fell about 2 inches onto some eggs in mine. They didn’t crack, but I hope they didn’t get jolted too badly.
Good luck with your welshes! I want to hatch some ducks but I’m not technically allowed to keep them.
