Adventures in Incubating Shipped Eggs

I am done with shipped eggs. Twenty three days nothing.

I waited for the hen in the coop to start hatching eggs, I stayed in the coop all day to make sure the chicks stayed by mom, then once it was dark, DH and I moved hen, chicks and unhatched eggs to broody cage..

I LOL ever time I read this and relive that day.

I will join you guys in my incubation adventure of shipped eggs! Right now I am on day 13 of a set of shipped Beielfedler eggs. It will be interesting to see how this hatch turns out being that this is my first experience with this particular egg seller and for the first time I haven't candled the eggs. I guess I am just crossing my fingers and wishing for the very best.

Are you really not going to candle at all?

I know it sounds like I am a total NUT. Please remember my coop is under my house and is 8 feet x 8 feet and 5 feet high so I was fairly comfortable and it was fun watching the little guys stick their heads out after hatching and drying. I would do this over again (may be I am nuts) but I enjoyed it and it kept the hen on the nest all day. So.....

The worst of it was that DH woke me up to tell me there was peeping under the hen, so I got up in JUST his old concert t shirt that I had slept in and stayed there, dressed in only a holey t shirt all day. If someone had found me I would still be under observation in the hospital instead of on BYC.
