Adventures in Incubating Shipped Eggs

Pics
Hello, First time incubating eggs. I have heard that when turning eggs you should never turn them the same direction. Can I turn them longways?

I really don't know. But I can tell you what I do when hand turning.

Because of spacing I end up rolling the eggs away from myself on one turn and then towards myself the next time.

Maybe someone else will have a better answer.

Day 5 update. 17 eggs from Florida. Rough late shipping. Yesterday had some sort of veining in 11. Today, 6 clear eggs are still clear. 5 with obvious embryos, 6 look more like developing blood rings. :-(

2nd set from Mississippi. Yesterday the only egg which showed any development was an extra egg she sent. It's not my requested color. Today, it's a happy little embryo, but all 8 of the black silkies are still clear.

So 26 shipped eggs & 6 are developing. I only expect 3 to hatch (cuz that seems to be how it works with shipped eggs) I am so mad at the post office over the 1st shipment!! Late & every single aircell was detached!

2nd one looked great. I think their may be an issue in the breeding pens of 2nd shipper. She has offered extra eggs if all blacks are clear in the next few days. Which I think is great!
Tough shipping situation. My fingers are crossed for your wee developing ones.

I don't know either. I have an auto turner and it basically rocks the eggs from side to side.

That's some great customer service! The person I bought my goose eggs did that, too. I ordered 4, they sent 6. None started to develop....so they sent 6 more. I was floored.

Hello, @Lidiapac730 ! Welcome to egg incubating!

I always roll them in the same direction, and have not had any problems with that. Flipping them longwise does not seem to be as gentle, and does not seem to be the way that a hen would roll them in a nest, but I can't speak to how it would work out.

How do I know that embryo is still alive inside the egg? Should I take out all the eggs that do not have visible embryo? I got 14 eggs, all shipped, and only 5 have visible embryo. Day 5, should I keep waiting or take the others out?
