Adventures in Incubating Shipped Eggs

That's fantastic!

Would love to see more pictures if you have the time.
Hello, again! Well, I am done hatching for the year (I think), but here are pics of the little Belgian D'Uccle chicks, as they have grown. They are running all around the yard with Mama Brahma, now, naturally IMG_8279.JPG IMG_8292.JPG IMG_8325.JPG IMG_8538.JPG IMG_E8295.JPG IMG_E8312.JPG IMG_E8671.JPG becoming part of the flock under her protection.

Well so far out of the 24 shipped eggs I started with 10 have quit..... Witch was expected. I still have a few of each breed going so there is still hope. I was excited to see that all 24 did start! The buckeyes are really difficult to see into so I have not come to any conclusion's there it may be great,,, or a bust still too early to tell..... I did notice that they eggs I received from both sellers were smaller than I usually get from my girls, maybe a medium? So????
So still cooking we have
3 Rhode Island red
2 Dominique
2 red star
3 cinnamon queen
2 silver laced Wyandotte
2 ameracaunas
So not terrible with a little over a week to go

That is promising to have so many still doing well! Also nice that you have at least a couple of each breed. You are making me want to get more eggs, lol! Looking forward to following along with your hatch.

Looks like I don't get any Svart Honas. This is the one I kept, and I'm seeing curved tail feathers. Too bad. "Jenny" is really sweet. I'll have to rehome him. I love this breed, and may try again.

They are so precious! And Momma Brahma looks to be doing an excellent job with her small little chicks. Thanks for sharing. :love

I hope you are feeling better as well.

Oh rats! I so feel your pain. Out of the 5 shipped eggs that hatched, 4 are roosters for certain, and only one -- the runt -- still might be a hen. One of the cockerels, the first one that hatched actually, I had to cull last week, because it was pestering a broody hen and trying to attack her chicks. So sad. As long as the temperament is good, I am going to keep either my little black maran, or the lone orpington that hatched, to make baby chicks for next year. They are really handsome. The Maran is better looking when the sun hits his feathers and you can see the colors in them. If they are both nice, it's going to be a tough choice.

I have loved all my Marans roosters, although they all have been Black Copper so I dont know about other varieties of Marans. Your roo is going to have quite the comb!! Is he Black Copper? I don't see any copper around his neck.

I'm not exactly sure what he is. He hatched from a bonus egg that was marked "LM", which I thought meant Lavender Maran. The other three hatching from "LM" eggs were Lavenders. We were joking earlier that maybe it stood for "leftover Maran."

In the last few days since this picture was taken, I've noticed more copper feathering on his chest and neck, and just this morning saw a strip of new bright copper feathers stubs in his saddle area, which I'm assuming are going to turn into beautiful, coppery saddle feathers. His feathers have a pretty green sheen to them. I'm thinking it is a BCM or perhaps one of his parents was a BCM.
