It started with finding out that chickens eat bugs. I don't like bugs. Then I found out that they eat most things that my kids won't eat because it has been around too long. I can't stand things going to waste. Then everyone kept telling me not do it! At 50+ years old, I don't need people telling me no. Finally, my daughter kept saying that she wanted chickens and it was her birthday. So this farmer's daughter became a farmer again. I know about steers and spearmint, hummm how hard can chickens be? I have 6 kids, a dog and 4 cats, so what is 12 chickens on top of that? They eat lots of eggs. I'm ready for an adventure. Since I home school my youngest, what better science lesson is there?
What breed? Oh, dear....maybe TSC can tell me. I just said I wanted egg layers. We took six of these and six of those. They were buy one, get one free. My reluctant husband suddenly wanted 20! I was afraid that our dog cage would get a bit small on them. Boy was that right. I held firm to 12.
The hen house is going to be a make over play center. If I can just get someone to build it!
My dad has free wood shavings and free lumber. We have even found some free wire. We might just turn that trampoline into a run. Well, I was up to an adventure. Now I lay awake at night and wonder, "What did I get myself into?"
Pinterest has led me to you and lots of wonderful ideas. Do hens really do better with curtains? My mom thought I was crazy when I told her that. She laughed at me, the nerve of some mothers! I'll be here often, educating myself. I certain know a lot more than I did a few months ago, when I had never even held a chicken.

Keeps us busy .. It gets to easy not to stay active.. But I also Love Love raising them .. I hope you Enjoy it and this site
