Soon my chickens will be free ranging and it occurred to me that there's only going to be a chain link fence that separates my chickens from the neighbor's chickens.

Is this something I should be concerned with?

If so, how far apart should the two flocks be in order to be safe?

How friendly are you with the neighbors? I would think it would be nearly impossilbe to keep some airborne diseases from spreading even if you did have more distance between the fences - especially if you occasionally get a volunteer hopping the fence now and then. I think the better thing to do will be to agree on biosecurity measures between you both: quarantining adult chickens, having visitors spray their shoes and letting you know right away if one of their chickens shows signs of illness.
