Advice about breeds...

Do you have any friends looking at getting duck/chicken eggs that you could offer to hatch for under your hens? Have you explained your situation to the duck guy or someone similar, maybe they'd let you have a small clutch of eggs to hatch and then hand back the duckling once they had done their job?

I have bantam hens who are going broody daily, I just go in take their eggs, I don't like to but I don't have room for more chickens or ducks so I have no choice. They get over it fine. I also have Muscovy ducks who love to brood having to do the same with them.

Ok, so my mom is going to pick up some of this guy's duck eggs to hatch for my cousin's farm. I'd be interested to see what she gets.

Well if you live on a busy street and no way to keep your ducks on your property might not be such a good idea to get ducks. Be a shame to find them dead in the road from being run down by vehicles.

I'm not too worried about them getting run over. Water fowl go back and forth from our pond and the big city park pond, and there are never any roadkill ducks or geese on the streets. Squirrels, yes. Cats and dogs, yes. Ducks, no.

I'd be interested to, and to see how you get on!

Do you know what she brought back yet? And how are the chickens doing with them?
