I was watching my Isa Brown pullet, Eggeltina, just then and noticed that after she's 'answered the call of nature' she hunches over and fluffs up, standing like that for over two minutes on and off. I'm a very new chook owner and immediately started panicking. She's around 21 weeks (I believe, I only got her about 5 days ago), could she be ready to lay or is something wrong with her? Or is this normal?
All advice most appreciated, sorry I'm a bit panicky I just am still new at all this!
Thanks

Could she be squatting? Does she throw her wings out to the side, and lower her body, perhaps stamp her feet? (this is completely normal egg-layer behavior) Or is she fluffing out her feathers? Perhaps you could describe her actions more...

No she doesn't squat down at all, just kind of hunches her whole body up. She doesn't spread her wings or stamp her feet... just hunches up and yeah. I've also noticed she has been sitting in the nest box a lot lately? She doesn't seem distressed but I just worry.. a lot.

I'm having a hard time visualizing, but anyway, if she does not seem in distress, I wouldn't worry too much. She is obviously getting ready to lay. Make sure she has access to plenty of oyster shell (even if she is now on layer feed) so she can push those eggs out, and water and feed 24/7. You could catch her and check her vent for any discharge if you are concerned she might be egg bound. Be aware that first eggs are often odd, soft-shelled, small, pecked, etc... this is normal.

I had a friend and his hen got egg bound, she was really sick for awhile but luckily got better.
Her poo is a bit runny but I don't think it's discharge? I'm worried sick, I really hope she doesn't get egg bound
