We have an egg bound Khaki Campbell, a two year old. This is the first time that nothing seems to work. Typically warm epsom baths, massages, lubrication, calcium gluconate, work. Crushed oyster over her peas. She is able to eat and poo normally, but we have been working on getting this egg out for 3 days now. I have dosed her with calcium 2x a day and my 14 year old and I have been trying to save his girl. The odd thing is that even though the egg is low down (can feel it through her abdomen easily) we can't access it like we normally would. Usually an egg that low we can touch the egg and manipulate it out. My son is very worried for her, his baby. If anyone could give me some advice-no vets in the area and the one who finally saw us was absolutely no help, googling everything.
We haven't lost any babies from our last two flocks these last couple of years, and my 5 boys will be devastated if she passes 💔
Sorry if pic is too graphic

hmm. maybe there's something surgically to be done? but avian vet clinics are really expensive.........
I called for miles and miles around last summer when I had a sick duck, and everyone told me they wouldn't take ducks because of the avian flu. I did find one, but he googled a bit while apologizing and said he doesn't know anything about ducks. He told me to give her antibiotics, and the dosage, but I was already doing that 🫤
He told me and my son to get a necropsy done if she died, and we might get an answer. 😶

what happened did it get resolved? I have a 3 year old rouen and she is eggbound for 2 days now, i will give her tums to see if it helps. Already had to put down her sister because she had a deadly prolapse.

First things first, calcium.
give her 600mg calcium citrate, with vit D would be ideal. You can get it from a health store, pharmacy or online, in tablet form. Pop it straight down her throat, make sure it goes to the side so she doesn't choke. This will help her contractions. You could alternatively use calcium gluconate, 1 ml of the liquid form, you can get it from tractor supply. This is urgent, especially if it has already been 2 days.

Warm soaks, get her into a tub of warm, but not hot, water. No need for Epsom salts, just plain water. Supervise her, and afterwards ensure she's in a warm dimly lit quiet space, with another female duck would be good- Reducing stress is key.

Please let us know her symptoms and what leads you to believe she's egg bound, best to rule out anything else that could be causing an issue. Is she still pooping, eating, drinking?

Hope she feels better ASAP.

I did go to the pharmacies here to get the supplements you mentioned but none had it, at another place I got one that says it's "calcium 600g with vitamin D3. She is eggbound because she had gone through one before, but I did not know it was a deficiency of calcium. Because of her sister's death I did more research and I know now. I did check her near her vent and I could feel an egg there. She does poop but very little, she eats too, not much. She can walk good too. Her feather's are a bit droopy at the moment. I did put her on warm water last night, she stayed for a while and then started to bathe in it and got out. I really do not want to loose her too.

It’s 2 days with today that I noticed. I have checked for the calcium
Citrate and gluconate but none of the pharmacies here have. I know she is eggbound because she has been through this before but I didn't know i did not help much. She eats and poops. Not much but it’s like a mucos. I have felt her and the egg is there. She had previously been laying very small eggs with soft shells. If the egg has come down would i need to be the one to help her pass it?

After many baths and gentle massages, prayers, and calcium gluconate from tractor supply, we woke up to her dripping what appeared to be yolk. She had been eggbound for at least 4 days but eating and pooing normally. I gave her antibiotics and additional calcium (many hours apart) for a few days and she appears to have recovered! I hope that yours recovers very quickly and passes the egg.

Do you think that not having a male to mate with them can also be a cause as to them getting eggbinding? I have to males but the are on a separate yard. I do not keep them together because drakes are too rough, and the females would run off screaming when one of them came near.

No, there's no reason why being mated would prevent egg binding. And if the drakes are rough, I definitely wouldn't take that risk.
It sounds like your girl is having a calcium issue, do you supply crushed oyster shells? It's crucial that they have access to this.
You really do need calcium citrate or gluconate, can you get to a tractor supply to look for calcium gluconate, liquid form? Otherwise, I'd reccomend purchasing calcium citrate tablets online, and getting the soonest possible delivery. I'd give her 600mg calcium citrate daily until she is laying proper shells again. Or 1ml of calcium gluconate, I believe the brand is duvert.

In the meantime, do warm baths for her, nice warm water, let her soak in it for a while, it will help her to pass the egg and may relieve pain or discomfort she's feeling.
