If the coop manufacturers say 3-4, it really is only suitable for 1 or 2. They always overestimate the capacity, because their numbers are based on commercial battery farm minimums. Barred Rocks are a large breed.

They will need a minimum of 4 s.f. in the coop and 10 s.f. in the run per bird.

The room they eventually will be living in permanently is at least 8x10x12 if not larger, and we will be letting them free range over our yard when they are old enough and the weather is permitting (North Texas). Chicken run hasn't been built yet so I can't give a size estimate just yet.
