and bless you for doing it

Thank you all for your advice about Joey! She is at my house now and will be for good. She now has a pond that she loves to swim in each day just once in the morning....All her wounds are
healed up after being on antibiotics for a month. We started an organization and are having another meeting this Saturday at the park to discuss ways to outreach and educate the park visitors about the humane treatment of the wildlife there.

That is great news about Joey!! and also about your organization I hope you all do a world of good to help the waterfowl in your parks. All the best.

We are having a meeting this Saturday after putting a Letter to the Editor in the paper......Have now a good amount of people who are supporting what we are doing. (We got a petition signed by 75 park visitors, with one teenager getting 15 signatures alone!) We sent a nice letter along with the signatures to the Parks Commission for our city, and also to the man who is in charge of public works, etc. In less than 2 days we got a response back saying they think they will be able to meet our 3 requests in the proposal:
1) Signs that animal abuse will not be tolerated and is punishable, along with dispensers of healthy birdfood installed around the park (found that there is a model park where they brought in $8K annually in funds from the birdfood dispensers!)
2) A removable mesh cover that would be applied each Spring to prevent baby birds from getting swept down the drain (happens each year according to the folks who have lived here for many years)
3) Requested to change the park to be NO FISHING lake site; there is too close proximity between all the wildlife --and we were seeing seagulls, turtles, etc. being caught! (There is another larger lake very close to us here, and very little wildlife.)
We asked that our proposals be included into the 2013 Parks Plan.....so we will see! Very good response so far~
The teens at the high school are also interested in this and want to do a (3rd) interview on Joey The Goose! We have invited them to the event Sat. so hope they will be there.
Thanks so much all for your wonderful input and support! Any ideas or suggestions is always most welcome!!!

Kalsti, many high schools and 4H have to do X number of hours of service learning (volunteer hours) reach out to them for help be it park cleaning of dangerous items, foot work for petitions ect.

FFA's are often organized at high schools
