We've had a less than successful hatch this year. Too many issues, momma's giving up, rotten eggs getting other eggs dirty, etc.

Well, last night we were sure the rest of our eggs in the incubator were failed. We decided to give up on them, but candle them just in case.

Anyway, after we candled about 5 we heard loud peeps from an egg in the incubator we hadn't gotten to yet. We immediately put the candled eggs back and put the lid back on.

We haven't heard peeps since. I'm terribly worried we accidentally shrink-wrapped the poor thing. What should we do? Humidity is a bit low at 63.

Should I reopen and look for movement and help it? Just wait and hope? This hatching thing is rough. We lost a chick last night that with our momma... Not sure what happened, it was right next to her.

Wait. I know it's hard, but high humitity and rest will get that chick out. You can't cook a cake if you keep opening the oven door to check on it. Hang in there. We know patience is hard, but wait.
Should we add any water to get humidity up it's only at 58 percent, but unlike our smaller incubator this one always drops when we add water before it goes up. (Our other incubator starts going up the second you add water)

I understand being apprehensive about hatching.
Personally, I think your humidity if fine. I rarely go over 50% humidity when hatching here in my humid climate. It may depend on where you live.

Sounds like you may be dealing with a staggered hatch as well?

I don't hatch a lot and usually do not assist at all. Hopefully others will chime in with some tips.

Yes, we ended up with a staggered hatch despite our best efforts not to. We even bought a second incubator trying to avoid it
