Advice needed for my rooster and hen with controlled reproduction.

. Yes, i understand-bacon is good indeed. Do you raise your piggies for meat, or are they pets. I have a pet pig named Burt. I have always liked pigs. He sleeps with my cat. I will try and post a picture. I would love to hear more about your 2 pigs.

When I was in Peru last Feb. the hotel owner served some wild pig. I am vegetarian yes, but i dont go mental about it. I don't like some of the cruelties inflicted upon animals in some of the larger factory farms. It's quite brutal. This pig was probably happy going along in the forest and then-boom, gun, dead. Probably did not even know what hit him. And too many wild pigs can do damage. Yes i love pigs, but too many in the wild will not leave enough food for other species. Anyways, i had some and it was delicious (don't tell my pig Burt hee hee)

what a lovely story. Yes, i agree. Some industry practices keep the sows in gestation crates so small (2 feet wide) that they can't even turn around. Plus i have read about some of the bad processing horrors (improper stunning, etc) and some terrible ways of rounding them up. Awful. I just saw a video that was taken 3 days ago of a truck full of pigs at the processing plant (Quality meats) in Toronto, Ont. during a heat wave. 10 trucks of pigs tightly packed together in the scorching heat left to suffer for a long time. I watched the video and the pigs were screaming and crying. Much panting. If anyone is interested in seeing this i can provide the link, but it's upsetting.

For people who like to consume meat more regularly, it is nice to hear about your raising methods.

Happy and free. Good healthy diet. They will taste better too. Do you butcher them yourself too.

We actually plan on eating ours. We got them when they were young, and they were cute, but soon cute turns into a huge pig that requires costly feed so by now the pigs have gone from cute little animals to walking sausages.

Some people are yes, very strict. I think in life it's best not too obsess too much about anything and not go overboard. (although easier said than done sometimes

It's interesting that you said that we're raising are own pigs for the first time this year. We've got them in a big pen with trees and grass, and they go into the barn for shelter. They like to roll around in the mud, which is fine by me because they enjoy it.

We've got two, the boy is named Bacon and the girl is Bits.

We're going to take them to a slaughter house when they reach 200 lbs. Here they are when they were younger:

We have three spare ribs pork chop and ham bone last year we had two named bacon and sausage (it helps the kids not to get too attached if we name them after food so they know we will be eating them). Last year was some of the best pork I have ever had. Very little fat in the sausage and bacon and the meat tasted divine. They don't over salt it either when they smoke the hams and sausage so it's amazing. We are still using up what we have left from last year and our pigs this year will be going in October. They live in a 5 acre pasture with goats sheep and chickens. They have gotten attached to one of the male goats and he will call to them and they all come running. It's the funniest thing to watch. They are definitely happy pigs though rather than being cooped up and disgusting. I love it that way.

yes-sounds lovely. It sure makes for a lot of food too. Do you enjoying cooking. I do. It sounds like you have a very nice place.
