Hi, I did search but haven't found the answer to my queries. In an effort to squeeze a little more space out of our little coop I have decided to put that little nest box on that I've been thinking about (o.k. I admit I won't be doing it but husband will ....my job being the advice and since he isn't a handyman with the tools yet we both need it. )

So I need to find out what would be the best or minimum dimensions for one attached nesting box and any comments on benefits of top or side opening. It will be sloping so what would be the minimum height in the back?

Husband is hasty/eager so when I mentioned some dimensions but said I needed to check them out well... he already cut one side but assures me we have enough of that wood to start over. Right now the side is 9" high at back, 13" along the bottom and 13" at its highest point. Should I have made sure nothing was less than 12 "??? It seems to me that the hens wouldn't be able to stand up to get out??? And as there will be a lip in the entry how high should that be?

I only have 3 hens at this point (would like another one or two) and they are currently laying in a partitioned end of the little coop that could be better used.. Another reason for adding the nest box is for easier access of hen and eggs....trying to prepare for any broody hens that need moving.

Well any advice you can give would be helpful. thanks
