Advice needed

I'm thinking & like EggSighted4Life 's idea - Motion sensor sprinkling system under the tree & sporadically in your yard/garden area.
OR a long garden hose, if you know what time they're coming around go out & shoot them with water, hose them down before/when they're up in the tree. You don't have your location noted (you may want to update your profile) so no clue as to the kind of weather conditions you have.
OR get a dog (s)
OR if it's possible hang some fly tape on the tree branches
OR let your neighbor know you got yourself a rifle & thank them for the targets

I feel for you, I used to let my chicken grub in my backyard & used pinwheels to keep them away from my plants. I had 2EE & 2RIR they had no fear, dug holes so deep & had no idea how deep they could dig. Rehomed them & patched up my yard, Hubby built a 8 x 12 x 7 Chicken House which my 4BO say confined ... Everyone's happy.

Are they reasonable people?
I would say, obviously not.

My thought is, it sounds like you have lots of chicken dinners wandering around your yard. SSS.
Shoot Stew and Shutup?

I've been a lurker on this forum but joined today to reply to your post about your free ranging hell. This is not free ranging, this is livestock trespassing. Check into your County's Bylaw about uncontained livestock, it is easier to confront your neighbour with all the facts straight.
Glad you popped in, excellent advice.

@Free Range Hell ...Situation Stinks!!! Your neighbor sounds like an inconsiderate idiot.
@RoosterRules has it right, find out what the laws are by contacting animal control or the local police.

Welcome to both of you! Reasonable people keep their critters at home, so your neighbor is obviously not reasonable, and is causing you harm and inconvenience instead.
If politely telling them that this situation isn't working for you, then other steps must be taken.
Your state and local laws apply here, so look them up.
I totally agree with RR, aart, and bobbi-j !!!

… We live in the country, on 5 acres, and the neighbor to the west decided to free range a lot of chickens... The roosters are loud, and a bit obnoxious... They've scratched up my yard and dug up my plantings. My neighbor is really proud of their free range abilities... I want them gone....

OPTION 1: The way to trap a rooster is to wait till everyone has gone to roost and all are resting quietly then walk up underneath the roosting area with a long pole on the top end of which is a short piece of 1 inch dowel rod. Have someone shine the roosters eyes so that he is dazed, then slip the dowel rod up under him and gently push up. To keep his perch the rooster will transfer his weight to the dowel rod and then you can gently lower him hand over hand to you or your helpers level. A potato sack hanging on a bush is the perfect thing to hold or transport him in.

OPTION 2: Take former Vice President Joe Biden's advice and buy yourself a double barrel shotgun that you can poke out of your bedroom balcony window.

I keep telling folks that true free range chickens need 25 acers of ground on which to roam or range.

It will do you no good to trap the roosters because the hens will not mind sleeping with their fellow hens.

Keep us informed.
