Advice needed

2 week old chick has what I expect to be feather mites.. White/clear tiny bugs..

Going to get the powder treatment today but will it damage the chick as it is so little such as bad chemicals ect?

Uncontrolled lice / mites will kill a bird, and make it seriously ill and anemic before its death. Just try to avoid either of you inhaling the dust.

The chick is only just getting his feathers, which are now being eaten away :/ do you know if the powder will irritate him under the wings as it is basically bare skin from the young age

Chicks were powdered that day I posted it.. But they have got them again or they didn't leave?
Help please as I have a sick chick that isn't eating drinking or moving! :/

GET YOUR OWN THREAD! This is about laurengeeves chicks...if your bird has a problem, the respectful thing to do would be start a new thread. Nobody is going to get answers if everybody keeps asking questions. RUDE!

You NEED to apply the powder. I understand the sensitivity of the situation, and the powder is probably not a good thing, but your potion here is to kill the mites or kill the chick. Now, my suggestion would be to continue powdering the bird, and make food and water regularly available. Apply the powder to skin and feathers, because mites can live in both areas. Also, I could be wrong, but you may possibly want to look up a recipe for a type of soak? Maybe you can create some form of organic bath for the bird, soak him for a few minutes, and hopefully kill the mites. But do something! Best of Luck!!!

But muz002, while we're at it, there are a few things that could be causing this. I don't think its spraddle leg because the chicken is six years old. Maybe it is the old age - kind of a form of chicken arthritis. A 6 year old bird is up there in age. Might not be a treatable condition. There are methods of uncurling the toes, but I don't know if they will work.

Thank you for your help, the chick is alot better now, but it still has the mites on it.. I only see like 1 at a time tho, I've covered it in powder and when I saw the mite was still alive I applied it again..

The chick and one of its siblings (one that I hand reared as was rejected but was put back with the mum at 6 days old) is living at mine till the morning, the mother hen I'm guessing is infested as her pen with the chicks is layered in feathers.. We have completely covered her 3 days in a row and its still happening

I'm thinking that the chicks are getting it from her, and I don't want them to die so I'm considering taking them away from her but I think it's to harsh to her but the chicks are to little to cope with mites..
