You NEED to apply the powder. I understand the sensitivity of the situation, and the powder is probably not a good thing, but your potion here is to kill the mites or kill the chick. Now, my suggestion would be to continue powdering the bird, and make food and water regularly available. Apply the powder to skin and feathers, because mites can live in both areas. Also, I could be wrong, but you may possibly want to look up a recipe for a type of soak? Maybe you can create some form of organic bath for the bird, soak him for a few minutes, and hopefully kill the mites. But do something! Best of Luck!!!
