I went down to the barn today to find that my hatchingtime cage water system leaked out all 5 gallons of water through the bottom tier of cages. I checked all the nipples and attachments and everything looks ok, my only guess is that the system partially froze and expanded overnight and then thawed out? Today/last night was our first snowfall as well. I just installed a fish tank heater that I had bought, but I’m not sure yet if it’s working or not. It’s been on for a few hours and the water still feels pretty cold, but not freezing cold. Does anyone have any advice for using these water systems in the winter?

I’ve never used this particular brand of cage but freezing can be an issue with all watering systems. I would recommend putting a thermometer in the tank to ensure your heater is working and double check for airtight. I just found a crack in the top of my heated waterer that was allowing all the water to leak out.

We just got a HATCHING TIME 2 layer chick brooder. I cannot get the drinker cup to work in the top....the bottom works fine. I've tried to purge it as suggested. Guess I'm going to have to take it apart. any other suggestions?
