Hello everyone,

My boyfriend and I are currently renovating our trailer coop. We’d like to make a run that is also mobile. My concerns are how will a mobile run protect the hens? We are in the sticks and see eagles, hawks, foxes, bears, etc. all the time. We want the mobile run considering we will be moving at the end of the summer, not far- but still. I want to build something framed with wood, and skirt the hardware cloth out/or dig into the earth. But that’d be a lot of lumber to move. I’m open to ideas on what others think might work! Thanks for reading :)

I have a chicken tractor that is 10’x3’ and had chicken wire underneath (not a skirt). It is covered (metal roof) It is heavy. But it is mobile. Hardware cloth on the bottom would be more predator proof but then it would kind of defeat the point of having a tractor. Same with the skirt. Depending on your climate you might save weight by eliminating the floor of the coop area-just put hardware cloth under the roosts so poop can fall through. Additionally you could use portable nesting boxes that you put in the run-they don’t use them when theyre sleeping anyway so you could take them out when you want to move it

I didn’t build mine but might have made those alterations if I had. Or if I’d thought to ask the builder. I really didn’t know how heavy it would be
