I have cockerels that need homes and I have takers but they are far away.
I'm hesitant to endanger the chicks by shipping them without understanding how to do it right.
Anyone here shipped larger birds at 6 or 7 weeks and know how?

-what kind of box do I need?

-will the post office ship and get them there overnight?

-what do I put in the box with them, anything to eat or drink? I've heard cut up pieces of apple

-If I'm shipping two roosters raised together, can they go in the same box? will that be less stressful or will the stress make them attack each other and better to ship in two compartments of a box?

-any special permits or vet checks, vaccinations required? I've heard both yes and no

I don't think its safe to ship anything older than day olds.

doesn't sound like you are getting many answers to your questions...I hope an experienced breeder who ships older birds reads this and helps out with some good quality info for you!!!

Thanks. Maybe I should have posted to a different board.

As I understand it you must be NPIP certified to ship a live bird. If you have that then you should be all set for regulations. I have no idea about shipping boxes and such since I am not NPIP certified, I have never shipped a bird out or had anything older than day-olds shipped in. I hope someone can answer your other questions!

Animals are shipped all the time (dogs, cats, exotic birds, etc) I'm sure somewhere you can find the info needed to ship a chicken.

Maybe call FedEx and see what regulations they have. I'm sure they could tell you what type of box and time frame, etc...and maybe they can direct you in the right direction for legal shipping requirements...or the human society might have some information on that for you??
