Advice please - free ranging a sick hen

:caf Wonderful news! I am gojng to follow @azygous' suggestions to build up my #2 roo. George is a yearling BJG who suffered some frostbite to comb and wattles this past Feb, and #1 roos has begun to pick on him mercilessly. No blood drawn that I have seen, but #1 runs him off the food and scratch... George is quite tame so I think I will put him in the bachelor pad for a while until I can build him up. So glad Ruby is doing well!

why not just make your "run" a safe place for your chickens to "free range?"...they won't know the difference and not risk predators...

"free range" is a worthless term. a person with a backyard "free ranges" and a farm with 5 acres, fenced has a "run."

bottom line...protect your animals.

Update:

RUBY WENT TO BED ON A ROOST TONIGHT!

She seems to be gaining strength on her own. I’m amazed. No free ranging time until after work. I did get some kefir for mixing in layer pellets, kale and hulled sunflower seeds (Ruby’s fave until this latest bout of illness). I’ll sprinkle surprises around the run tomorrow before I let them out.

So I have decided NOT to let her free range on her own. Thank you to all who offered advice, especially @Kris5902 on @BY Bob ‘s thread and @azygous, one of my mentors, for your ongoing support
