Excellent advice! Before we bought this house - I called realtors, the zoning board, the local police, etc. I wanted to know exactly what animals we were allowed to have, if there were restrictions, if we were allowed to hunt or shoot on the property, etc, etc...

Don't forget to look up local sexual predators on the registry.

IMO rural living is the only way to go.

I want to move further into the country. Glad you have a place that will let you keep your animals!

I agree with what others said....a well maintained, clean yard looks good no matter what. Put some planter boxes or whiskey barrels filled with plants around the skirting, or build a large deck that you can tear down and take with you if you don't buy.

You said the barn was large enough for six horses, so just in case you decide to get some... When we were young and didn't know anything we had 7 horses on our 6.75 acres and they totally over grazed and ended up killing many trees.

It's something you will want to remember if you are renting...horses will eat tree bark even when they have grass and feed. We only have one now and he's about 33.....anyway, I didn't want you to lose trees like we did.

ohh thats good to know! we have sort of thought of maybe 1 or 2 in the distant future...not sure though since we have our hands full with the goats!

If you like the land, you can always replace the home, or build a new one later. There's some really nice things they can do with prefab now. As for asthetics, I'm a fan of vines and lattaces to hide an iffy exterior.

The only thing I would caution you on is to check the wiring over and over again. I worked in insurance a lot of years and wiring fires in mobiles are deadly. They go up like kindling - especially the older ones. If the landlord is willing to fix any wiring problems or let you fix them, then go for it. There are tons of decorating ideas to make any place a home.

Also be careful with heat tape in the winter!
