advice required

Thank u all for your replies.., since typing the above question I now have another problem. As mentioned 2 of the 3 were laying then the 3rd one layed a few soft shell ones..,, we put all three into a hen hotel for the weekend and since they have come back (just over a week ago)not one has laid anbegg..., what should I do?

a "hen hotel"? Do you mean to say you boarded the birds somewhere off property? If so, the disruption of that sort can disrupt their laying and it may take a couple of weeks for them to come back into regular laying.
 
Yes it was off property. ?..I feel really bad ....don't think it was a very good one either..., I have found another one which looks much better..just have to see how they are in a few weeks

Are you gone from home often? With an animal such as chickens it is usually better to make arrangements for someone to come by your place to provide food/water/welfare check during an absence than to move them on/off the property a lot.
 
Not that often.....as my hens don't like being cooped up and I worry about foxes I thought it best to put them somewhere someone with experience could look after them ..... I have found a breeder who will look after them but this is also boarding!
