Advise for treatment respiratory problems.

Morning
I’m from the UK so I don’t think that applies to me, also, I don’t breed, they are my little girls, pets only.
Well whateve you do, please don’t breed from your sickly infected flock as you don’t know what disease your flock has and some diseases are transmitted via the eggs, making any chicks that hatch, already infected with the disease. So please keep a closed flock and don’t sell, breed or giveaway birds from your flock. Know king doing this, can lead to federal state law issues.
I do have eggs in my incubator, 19 days left before hatch. Once my girls have been treated, will I be able to introduce them to my flock? Or will I have to keep separate? @Eggcessive @Wyorp Rock

hi
Can anybody give me any advice please? My hens have been sneezing and rasping for quite some time now. I’ve tried adding respite, vit boost+. I clean their house out daily, filled in any gaps to prevent drafts, and still sneezing and heavy breathing. I’ve just done the 7 days with flubendazole to treat for any worms, I am at a loss! I have some doxycycline 100mg capsules that I’m thinking of giving, can this be added to drink water, also on another thread, I read to get some denagard and treat with both??? @Eggcessive any advice would be really appreciated 😁

I would suggest you my own hack after I tried hands on Baytril still nothing fix I try this hack from my mom and it fix the cough and rattle like magic .

So take 2 big cloves of garlic and boil them in water until they become cooked .

Once cool you can give this lukewarm garlic to your chook and iy Will help alot

Other is oregano oil , rosemary oil , weekly 1-1 drop in their water

I also give peppermint oil capsule once a month to clear all the bacterias and flush out the system

If your birds were not yet infected when the eggs were laid then you will have to keep them seperate forever.
These are eggs I have purchased, no connection to my girls. Aww how sad 😔

Hi
These are eggs I purchased, no connection to my girls. That’s so sad 😞 my girls have a 30x30 pen, but mostly free range until they go to bed, which means I will have to half the pen and not let any of them free range. I think at this point, I need to get our vet in to confirm it is MG, trouble is..they are not as knowledgeable as the people on here, if only 2/3 are sneezing/wheezing, would all 8 be infected? I have 3, 6 month old bantams who show no symptoms at all.
Thank you for your help 😁

If its MG then yes, all are infected. They cant share a pen, even if its sectioned off. Not all show symptoms but if they're in with MG infected birds then they are all carriers.

A little update, I had to cull my girls in order to eradicate, I went through the correct procedure, it’s defra in the uk, I was devastated, because as there is in America, there are no tests for a small dwelling, just advice to cull :( devastated!! can anyone tell me the amount of time before I can put my babies in their house, obvs I will get the jet wash on it and disinfect, I’m just scared because sometimes disease can live in soil for years x

Unfortunately, if you handled the big girls then handled the Littles they may also be infected. IF it was MG then I believe you wait a few months. But if you weren't able to test then you'll never know. MG is super contagious. Just wearing the same shoes.in the run then with the Littles introduces it to them. Same clothes, not washing in between. I didn't cull my flock so I'm not 100% on the wait time but I do believe I've read a few months.

Thank you for your reply 😁 I had to cull ☹️ We went from having 18 girls to 4, onion and dotty we had for 61/2 yrs. When they died we were left with 3 ( Mrs brown, Winnie and Dusky) that weren’t in the best health, making that decision was heartbreaking, the last 3 girls were 4 yrs old and had started to deteriorate, rather than them suffering, it was probably kindest to cull after a year of trying antibiotics and all kinds of remedies, nothing was working. As for the new babies, they were still in the incubator when this happened, so no cross contamination at all and they have been kept in 1 of our stables, well away from our chicken house. Tbh, our chicken house is still the same since we lost our girls ☹️ I haven’t been able to go anywhere near it. It’s just so empty. I’m just thinking now is probably time to move on, get the babies in there, start to love being a mad chicken woman again, but, as I said, I need to know it would be safe to do that.

Mycoplasma lasts about 3 days in the environment after birds are gone. Other respiratory diseases are about the same or a bit longer in the poop. If it has been several weeks, you should be okay to get new healthy chicks, but beware that unless you get birds from a hatchery, you could always bring in a disease from breeders. You never know if they have had a problem with disease before. Wild and migrating birds also can bring in diseases. Sorry about your situation.
