I agree.ok I will do that because if it is the fact that he is selling birds that he does know is sick then the people that just gave him he's license should know this. I am not mad about losing one or even getting ripped off I just don't want to risk my larger flock of birds.
i hate to say something bad about someone i dont know or ever meet but that sounds like bull to me. i doubt he has a license, ask to see it. and to get certified ,pretty sure they wont draw blood on each and every chicken. you can carry this from one coop to another on your shoes. end up having to treat them all. look up what it takes to get certified where you live if they even do.Yes I have them in a pen in a out side building very far away from my flock. The weird thing is the day before I bought these from him he got licensed to be a breeder and a seller in our state an he told me that they did blood work on every bird he had that day?
You read this correctly. I was surprised how candid she was about this. I agree with what you stated. Its very sad. I did not buy any birds from them. I was inquiring only. I won't buy from them, I want vaccinated chicks if I buy any, it will not be with this breeder. I have read the devastation that other members have gone through on here with Marek's disease.I was reading this thread and did I read correctly that he said he has a few chickens die each year from mareks? Also just so you know the truth his chickens did NOT get mareks from the vaccine. The vaccine is NOT the mareks virus so it would be extremely unlikely that the vaccine gave them the mareks virus. It sounds like he has active marks in his flock. Mareks is a highly contagious airborne disease and if he has had mareks and his other birds were exposed then although they may not be symptomatic now they likely are carriers of the virus and can infect other birds without having symptoms themselves. Also mareks can live on land for years. Interesting that he blames the vaccine for giving the birds the virus when the vaccine itself is NOT the mareks virus.mareks is latterly everywhere and our only defense as of now is the vaccine although the vaccine is not 100% effective. After vaccination the bird MUST be kept from exposure (outside and adult birds) for the very least 14 days while their bodies build antibodies and immunity.if this time is not given the bird will catch the virus although vaccinated because time was not given for the production of antibodies. If I read this correctly and he is loosing birds to mareks each year and still selling them knowing he has a compromised flock this is just awful.as I said if exposed to the virus they don't have to be symptomatic to spread the virus.they could be carriers. I would be very reluctant to purchase from him knowing this. I'm not sure if I read that correctly or not but if I did read that correctly I would certainly look for a new breeder. I hope this is helpful and wish you the very best.
Please help! I have three pullets and I went up to feed them yesterday and found one with froth on her beak and using her wings for support. She is usually the life of the party but when I saw her she was sitting in the corner by herself ...any suggestions as to why she is like this?
