afraid of the dark???

ok so I was a bit joking about my chicks being afraid of the dark before.... But really can that be??? I have a white heat lamp, turned it off last night and they squawked like never before. Came home from work today and 3 were huddled together, so turned it on for a couple of hours. Well the second I turned out the light tonight they went nuts, only for about 5 min. but really can they be afraid of the dark?

sure! I ended up weaning mine off the light by switching to lower wattage bulbs, then toward the end before they were big enough to put out (completely feathered), I just used a night light in the room. It is amazing how much quieter and more secure they were.

They are afraid of the dark because they can't see in the dark.
