After almost 2 years something got in?

Thanks Nardo, I hope it was an isolated attack too but im not taking my measures against said predator lightly.. Got some coon traps today and ill be mocking up new coop/run plans soon to secure the birds better especially at night as I am certain this was a night attack. Based off the evidence on the coop whatever got her was all over or she went all over at the first attack.. either way its disturbing after raising the flock from chicks, appreciate the insights though![/QUOTE]

Good luck, I hate losing one especially if it looks like they didn't go fast. . .

Thanks again! I cringe at just the thought of it all now even if to most it was "just a chicken" its not just when you raise them from chicks to hens and they become a good laying hen..as we have noticed after having 13 of them some do lay better than others. I did get some 1/2" hardware cloth this weekend as step #1.

found this critter in the trap this morning..

Also had this damage to the hardware cloth portion of the coop. seems something was trying for round 2

Glad you got one of them! And, your hardware cloth is not attached well enough, as you've just seen. We used fence staples into the framing, then 2"x4" woven wire stapled on top, and then 1"x4" boards screwed on over that. Bears can still get in, but they haven't arrived here. Yet. Here is the backside.. staples to hold the hardware cloth in place with this wood on top of that also stapled in. When I redo the run ill be doing screws with fender washers and staples.
