After Christmas I would like to do a block swap. Update first post

kyquilter is Judy Laquidara, the author of a couple quilting books. She also lives in my town. Have you ever visited her blog? OMG, it is so addicting! She has a tremendous following. That's exactly what I was saying. I didn't want to join, because I know you have rules, and one rule is to prewash. I don't want to join and not follow your rules. I respect everyone's opinions, and I respect rules, as well.

Frankly, I have so darn many UFOs to finish up before Christmas, I don't really have time to sit here on the computer! LOL I need to get busy!​

Ok everyone, I changed the first post. I know most of us use 100% cotton and good fabric so please you don't need to pre-wash. And I'm sorry kathyinmo maybe I misunderstood you. If you don’t want to join just PM me and let me know I will take you off the list. But you don’t need to have this done until March. Hint, hint.

I got in on this topic a little late....
The only time I've pre-washed my fabrics is for the block swaps here.
I've always made my quilts from 100 % high quality cottons before pre-washing. I like the "feel" of nice cottons
I use Warm and Natural needled cotton batting for both hand and sewn quilting. It hands like butter.
And I've had only minimal shrinkage.

Well, I have finished my 20 blocks, hope you all like them.

And now I have to start cleaning the house for Thanksgiving. I wanted to do the blocks before the holidays. We will have 13 people for Thanksgiving dinner,

all our immediate family, so I want to make some of that delicious sounding fudge and other goodies that are traditional with us. We also are building another coop for my Blue Australorp project.

I do wash all my fabrics on a short, gentle cycle as soon as I get home with them. I just wash and dry them while I'm doing something else, then press them and put them away. I have seen even very good name brands come out with a long corner where it was cut, after washing! I would have to square it up before using it. Most pieces prove to be OK, but I want to know that all that work won't look like a big waffle after it's been washed. Just my choice. I like ironing so that's not a problem. We have a smoke-free home too.

I think next we should have a signature block swap and everyone make simple friendship blocks and sign the plain center square, then we could remember all the great quilters/chickenfriends who made them. We have a quilt that was made by my Mother-in-law back in 1948 by her Busy Bee Quilting Club and signed and embroidered by many people whose names my DH still talks about, including his Aunts, Grandmother, Mothers and sisters of his school friends, etc. Most of these ladies are gone now, but the memory in the quilt speaks volumns.

Quilting is as addictive as chickens.

Few years ago I had a Henry Alexander fabric bleed and ruin my finished quilt so I wash all my fabric.
I don't wash my cotton batting.I only use 100 % cotton fabric and warm and natural cotton batting..

I don't wash batting.

I use the regular synthetic batting in varying thicknesses depending on wether I want a light weight summer quilt or a heavier winter quilt and I don't think it would shrink at all. I would never pre-wash it anyway. Now, cotton might be different. I've never had a good fabric bleed though.

I must say I think I made a mistake with not washing one of my fabrics. I’m making a log cabin for my GD and I’m using red in the middle and blacks and whites for around it. I hope the red doesn’t bleed.

I will wash it before I give it to her and hope for the best. It's suppose to be a Christmas present but I don't know if I will get it done again this year.

I havn't been upstairs in my house for over a week. I hurt my back and can't do the steps. I feel like I'm 100 years old. But today I have to go clean stalls maybe that will help my back. I need to get sewing and when I get home that's my goal. Just to walk up the steps, so if you hear someone moaning it's just me. LOL
