Greetings and please help. Two days ago I noticed my 2 year old Australorp "Henny" was not well. She was straining repeatedly. She was straining to the point that there was some prolapse and I could see a yellow round object. On the first evening I gave her 20 minute warm soak and then applied KY jelly. While she was soaking she continued to strain, but nothing came out. Put her in "hospital cage" and hoped she would be there in the morning.
In morning she was still alive and still straining. I ran to Tractor Supply and got liquid calcium. Administered small syringe (avoiding her trachea and drowning her) of liquid calcium and then put as much Ky in and around vent as possible. Left her in cage. In afternoon (yesterday) I found that she had passed a very very sticky round yolk colored ball. Ball was larger than a marble but smaller than a ping pong ball. The ball was firm...like condensed yolk. I gave her another soak reasoning it couldn't hurt her and she seemed to enjoy it very much. Left her in her cage again overnight.
This morning I opened her cage door and when I got home from work she was out free ranging with the rest of the flock...although she was sitting down while the others were walking around. She is moving slowly. She is not straining. When I gave yogurt treat this afternoon she did approach with group and have a bit. She is moving around with the flock but then sitting down once they get to a new area. I have put her back in the cage for the night with fresh sand, fresh hay, food and water.
Do you think she is just slow to recover from the stress of the last few days or could there be more going on like egg yolk peritonitis?
Thanks in advance for your time and ideas.
