I would like to try showing at some point.
Do you quarantine your birds after taking them to a show?
Do other people at the show touch your birds?
How do you prevent disease when showing?

1. No, unless there was a sick bird that I noticed (I look over ALL the birds closely to see any outright symptoms). They get thrown right back into the population.

2. Yes, I let a select few people handle my birds. Unless they have my permission or are a judge, then they do NOT touch my birds...

3. Some people vaccinate, I don't. I suppose "luck" is a good thing and you just trust the other breeders to not bring their diseased birds to the show. It's worked pretty well for 18 years.

I dont show my birds yet. But if I do, I will quarantine them for 30 days after the show. (I think I read somewhere that that is a law in NY). Anyway.

My response to question 2 is the same as rodriguezpoultry.

I also dont vaccinate my birds.

I don't show yet, but I do plan to quarantine. I am fortunate, I have a quarantine building where I can isolate any new birds coming in. Once a bird has been to a show, I will consider it to be a new bird.

Birds are very good at hiding symptoms of disease. And some diseases are most contagious in the period BEFORE signs break out, in any case.

My birds are currently vaccinated for infectious bronchitis. I have other vaccines in the fridge right now.....whether I ever get around to giving em is another question!

Oh, I will probably also give Denagard to my birds during and/or after a show. I haven't really decided on that one yet.
