I'll be slaughtering my first chicken this weekend. After the slaughter
and the bird is cleaned and all that..... is there a recommended time
it should sit in the refrigerator before you can cook and eat it? I seem to
remember reading somewhere if the bird is eaten right away the meat can
be tough, whereas if it is not eaten right away and sits in the fridge for
some amount of time, the meat tends to relax..... or something like that.
Any comments or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks very much.

Until it's floppy. :) It depends on how cold your fridge is. Mine take about three days before they're ready to either cook or go in the freezer.

(It also depends on what kind of chicken (breed and age) and how it's cooked.)

Hi
Thanks for the replies....
The bird who will be slaughtered / butchered is an 8 month old light brahma rooster.
I'd plan on roasting him at some point and also make stock.
