After tattooing their names on each other - not good news.

Yes, I understand all that. What I'm wondering is how it affects a woman pregnant for the first time. They knew I was neg. before I had my first child, but I didn't have to have the shot until after I delivered a positive child (my second).
Anyhow, don't want to hijack Debi's thread. Just trying to understand.
Sorry Deb.

Debi,

I realize that it is probably for the best, but I am sending my condolences. I also have Rh sensitivity. I developed it after my son was born. I received the Rh shot and still developed the condition. I did not find out until I became pregnant with my daughter right years later. I went through my own personal h**l while I was pregnant. My daughter had to undergo three blood transfusions in utero and another four after birth. She had her last transfusion at 2 months of age. She is four years old now and just started school this year. I want to express my concerns for your son and his girlfriend. I believe that she needs to get the shot now if she hasn't already. I also believe that she needs to be routinely tested to make sure the shot is still working. Believe me, it is totally worth the trouble. I wouldn't trade my baby for anything. I would not want to go through it again, but I'm glad I had this experience. I know now that if I decide to have another kid, I will have to go through all this again and possibly more. The doctors did not hold out much hope when I was pregnant. They were wrong. I usually do not post family pictures but I feel like I should show you my reward. Again, I am sorry for your loss

gritsar: I also received a shot when I found out I was pregnant with my first child as a precaution for that pregnancy. Did you receive any shot during your first pregnancy? If so, it may have been the Rh shot.

No, I didn't. We're talking 27 years ago. They may have done things differently back then.

First baby should be fine unless mom had a blood transfusion or unknown miscarriage that caused antibody formation.

Sorry Debi!

Kat you are talking to the original thread hijacker here. If the information helps, hijack away!!!

They did tell Miranda that she needs a shot. I am not sure she understood through her tears last night. Poor child!!! I feel so bad for them. They were so excited. They really do love each other. I will give them a couple months before I talk to her about it. Personally I would like to see them get through college, but any child is a blessing. So if it happens again,

This is something that can't wait months. I know it is hard but she needs it now so she does not form those antibodies. The concequences for future pregnancies depends on it.

I do feel for them, I've had 3 losses myself (one a set of twins). I always hated it when people whould say it was God's will or there was something wrong with the baby..... it does not help you feel better. In your mind you know all of those things but it does not heal your heart......

Time helps; and not forgetting.....

Saying things like that to people who have just lost a child is not at all helpful. I would never say anything like that to her, no matter what we think. I am sometimes amazed at the things people will say in the face of tragedy.

I will talk to her later this week about that shot, so she doesn't wait.

Any chance you can talk to her MD tomorrow and get an official time frame from him about the shot, so you can pass on straight from the doc? Might help her to make a good decision. So sorry for their loss. I was an Rh baby and almost died too. My twin died.

I'm so sorry. I know they are devastated.

I am Rh neg., too (DH is pos. as are the kids) and she needs that shot NOW. If she went in to the doctor they should not have let her leave without giving it to her. They give it to you within hours (if not minutes) of delivering. Please get her to go to the doctor tomorrow to get the shot and be checked (if she hasn't been), it could save her even more heartbreak later on.
