After the accident. Down to two chickens, add more?

As for your comment, "these things happen", yes they do but they shouldn't. I have children and grandchildren, my neighbor has a dog and nothing I can say relinquishes me from the responsiblity to protect and care for my birds.

Not once did I say I wasn't responsible for what happened, just because no accident has befallen your flock doesn't mean that it can't "happen", it can. Unless you sit outside all day with a broom and a shotgun, these things can happen. And like I said, this is our first year with the birds and it has been a learning process from day one. Responsible people have accidents ALL THE TIME.

If you have grandchildren, I'm assuming they don't live with you. I'm a stay-at-home mom to three kids with one on the way, a dog, and a million other things on the go. Does this mean I shouldn't have chickens? No, it just means there's more opportunity for things to slip through the cracks and us to learn from it, unfortunately in both cases, this has been the hard way.

I think if you suggested to everyone on here who had lost a bird to an accident or predator attack this forum would shut down. So pardon my French when I say, poop happens.

So anyways, we don't plan on getting anymore birds until we move to the country later this year. Until then, I'll do my best to protect the two girls we have.
