Aftermath of -20° wind chill in nebraska

My gorgeous Welsummer lost most of his comb last winter, and has managed to fertilize plenty of eggs since then.
 
I have several with a bit of frostbite here in Colorado as well...the eggs crack, so I scramble them up and feed them back to the chickens, they devour them and adds some much needed protein to their diet...and BTW, Bag Balm works better than Vaseline, which doesn't do much good anyhow....

What can you do about frostbitten combs and wattles? Do you have to cull the chicken?
Does it require surgery?

He dosent seem to mind the bag balm, he thinks im a strange human anyway.
 
The best way to treat for frostbite is to heat parafin wax to 104 degrees and paint it on the combs. Doctors do this to their patients to treat frostbite on humans
