I got my chicks on mothers day. They are most likely red or golden sex-links(I think anyway).

They were almost all fuzz with a few wing feathers sticking out. Now, a week and a half later, they all have wings that reach their little tail feathers and are sporting some neck and back feathers too.

Any idea how old they might be? They had been at TSC for at least a few days when I got them.

Also I have been letting them out in the grass in the afternoons and they are definintly eating grass and any bugs they find. Is that ok at this age? When do I need to add grit to their diet?

Sorry so many questions, just didn't want to start a million new threads:)

Based on your description, it sounds like 2 1/2 - 3 weeks. That would be my guess based on my own experience with my little TSC chicks.

I started using chick grit as soon as the babies started eating grass. It's probably a good idea for you to add it to their diets too.

I agree with the above post! I put mine out for only a little but at a time and I kept close watch on them as we have a resident hawk in the area. To find out for sure what they are you can always call the hatchery that the get them from. You local TSC should be able to give you the number. They were also really helpful with any other questions you might have. What color were they when you got them>?
