My leghorns are 3 years old as are my Easter Eggers, Austrolorps, Wyandotte. I have an orpington and a barred rock age 2. I know they lay less in winter, but it seems extreme this time around. Only my leghorns are laying, of 4 leghorns I get an egg every other day, and no other eggs from my other breeds. So I'm wondering what to expect once everyone is laying again, given their age. I was getting, with 10 hens, 5-10 eggs a day.

Mine have been slow to start back up this year as well. It's been unusually more cloudy here. Since light plays a huge role I assume that's why.

Most older hens will start up by March. Some years the older girls will start in February but I don't expect it. Most hens can lay through their whole life, and others will stop completely between 5-8 years in my experiences with an occasional egg.

I have 10 hens & normally in the winter I will receive 1/2 of what I normally do in the summer. But, this year, I’m lucky to get 2-3 eggs a day.
I have:
2-5 year old cinnamon queens
2-3 year white Leghorns
1-3 year ISA Brown Chicken
2-1 yr old olive egger
2-1 yr old Ameraucana
1-2 yr old Black Australorp (rescue)

I received a link about the brand of chicken food I use, saying multiple people were having issues egg laying production & the common issue was the maker of all of their chicken feed. (Purina) I didn’t think much of it at the time (a few weeks ago) but, now I’m starting to do more research & Purina is also the maker of the chicken food I buy. (DuMor 16% Layer Pellet from Tractor Supply)

Now, today, I’m also having an issue with one of my hens eggs. (Never have had any issues w/ my hens & their eggs) this egg was very soft, as if it melted but, the odd thing, was that there was yolk/egg white & then there was also a white hard oblong object - about 2-3 inches long & about an inch in diameter.
I’m going tomorrow to get different food for them to see if anything changes.

Could that be a lash egg?
