Hello fellow chicken keepers. My little chicks will be seven weeks old Friday. They have had some runny poops and to be extra cautious I had our local farm vet check a fecal sample. No coccidosis but to my surprise she told me she found internal mites and stronglytes. Which I think is a kind of threadworm? This made no sense to me because they have never been out of the brooder or exposed to any of my other chickens. And I keep the brooder very clean and wash and disinfect their waterer every morning. So I took another fecal sample to my other vet who also has treated my chickens and specifically asked that she check for coccidiosis, stronglytes, and mites. She told me the sample was negative on all three counts. So now I am confused. The first vet contacted me this morning and wants to treat them asap. Should I deworm them just to be on the safe side? They are so small! But they do have somewhat watery poops. And if one baby chick has worms, wouldn’t they all? I have five chicks in the brooder. Please advise because I need to give this other vet an answer. Thanks! And what to use and dosage?
