my male scovy has reached maturity and is breeding with my hen who has started laying eggs. when they first started to breed i noticed him become more aggressive and pushy towards me but it was tolerable and controlable. however in the past couple weeks he's becom extremely aggresive and completely intolerable and unmanagable!

i can't go in their pen to change their water and food without him trying to tear my limbs off!!! before i even open the gate he's trying to break it down to get to me! this is very frustrating, especially since i can't spend time with my little girl gizmo who is very affectionate and loving. i don't know why he has become so aggressive and out of control because he used to be very sweet

i know hormones have kicked in but to be sooo aggressive? i'm at my wits end and need any and all advice on how to stop this or help him tone it down. i used to enjoy going out and visiting them and letting them hang out with me in the yard and now i dread going to just change their feed and water

is there any hope?

I suspect he was raised as a coddled pet and he is confused about the delineation between duck and human.

You can put him in his place and hope he learns he is a duck and you are a human and thus much higher status and risky to attack.

You can continue to allow him to terrorize you.

Or you can put him down.

Those are your 3 options.

I had read somewhere if you pin him down and ruffle the feathers on his back like a dominant duck would do to another he ll get the hint your the boss

My drake was really aggressive towards me too, i read somewhere to pin him down and show him who's boss, so i went out to him & he ran for me to attack me and i just pinned him down and stood over him for 30 secs then walked away and he left me alone. later on i went to put the ducks to bed and he went for me again, so i did the same and he's never tried to attack me like that since! the odd times he'll go for my hand when i put the water bowl in the house at night but other than that he's back to his cheeky loving self!
Give it a try & i hope it works. i was so sad when the aggression started, just glad it worked for me!

Well we had a break through today. I went to let them out and spend time with them and he was his normal sweet self :/ I was thinking today and noticed he's much more aggressive after dark...maybe cuz he doesn't see as well? But for some reason today he's been a pleasure to be around and I got to spend time with my sweet little girl :D hopefully this keeps up and I'm right about him just being more protective of her after dark because its harder for him to see :/
