I have 5 one year old call ducks, 2 females and 3 males. They peacefully share a run with 12 full size chickens (hens). Up until a week ago all was fine until one of the ducks started laying eggs. One of the drakes began relentlessly chasing and clamping down on one of the other drakes. The 3rd drake generally stays out of it, or if anything he seems to put himself between the two of them. All three of the drakes are gentle with the females, and don't seem to breed them nearly as often as I imagined they would. The females' feathers are in perfect condition. I ended up putting the aggressor in a large dog pen inside of the run. I have tried to let him out after a day, and he would immediate track down the other drake and begin attacking again and doesn't relent. He ends back up inside the dog pen.

Obviously this is a male to female ratio issue, but is it also only a spring issue as these Calls seem to be more of seasonal layers than year round layers? Even if I get a few more hens, would that even guarantee he stop?

Thanks

I just wanted to give an update to my situation in case anyone comes across this thread later on. I penned the aggressive drake for a few days in a large dog crate within the run. After his "time out" I let him out. If he chased/attacked the other drake more than a couple times, I put him back in the pen for a few more days. It took 10-14 days until his behavior improved. The entire flock including the previously aggressive drake have been back together for the past 2 weeks with no aggression or territorial issues. For my situation and my call ducks, it seems that it came with the season (the hens have stopped laying).
