I have 3 golden 300 ducks and one drake. All about 6-7 months old and hatched and raised together. My drake has started attacking one of the ducks and she had been injured having to spend several days in our duck hospital. He is not attacking the other two girls. I took her back to the duck yard today and the drake went after her again also not letting her near the other girls. Now its dead of winter with snow so not a spring mating thing going on. Any idea what Is going on and how to stop this. Drake has been removed and us currently bunking up with our chickens

The drake in with your chickens may lead to worse problems. He may start breeding them causing injury and perhaps death. It may be necessary to remove either the drake or the injured duck from the flock. Drakes tend to be extremely hormonal and single minded. It is likely that he will never allow her in the flock.

put the drake with his duck hens and seperate the bullied hen by chicken wire or something so he can see but not hurt her. if it’s not mating it’s probably just a dominance issue

Any chance that his aggressive behavior will ever change toward this hen
yeah most likely it will you just need to give it a month or so, i’ve had my hens even fight each other for dominance so no matter the gender of them it’s probably just that (especially if they are under a year old)

Hi Teri may I ask what exactly your drake is doing when he attacks?
I might make a separate post but I am having a problem with a pekin drake.
I have 2 in that group- 3 runner girls and 4 khaki campbells I just added. I don’t believe he is attacking. He’s laying on the two fawn runners -it’s ridiculous.

He incessantly chases and then lays on them, just the 2. He looks like he trying to mate so idk if he just has no clue what the hell he’s doing? If I see him I chase him off and he isn’t hurting them except with his fatness because he’s larger than the runners of course. Yesterday I watched him just to see if he would start doing the little wiggle mate thing they do but no he just layed on her and didn’t move at all. My other khaki Campbell drake who is the boss tries to bite him in the face when he does that but he’s just so fat..

Is he possibly dominating her?
Is that what yours is doing or he’s full blown attacking?
