Nah, I could never hit a goose for any reason. People on the other hand, well, they are fair game if they are dumb enough to do something like this guy did.

Geese have such good memories I doubt your gander will ever forget your BIL either. good reason to keep him away from your animals.

Panda, I am so sorry that your BIL did that. I when someone picks on or abuses animals. I always try to shelter my animals. Not sure how I would have handled someone picking on my animals when I am not there. The fact that you are not in jail is a good sign. I could end up in jail on assault and battery charges.

I hope it is ok for me to post my gander issue on this thread. If I'm out of line someone please tell me. It is the same topic.

My gander is 17 weeks old. I got him & a goose as day olds (my first). They were raised with 9 chicks (the same age). Everything has been fine until just recently the gander attacks the hose when we are washing out the water dishes and pool. He gets very agitated and we've had to push him away. A couple of times my husband has grabbed him by the neck and pushed him away. (he is careful NOT to hurt him). It has really made it unpleasant to care for them. We've spent a lot of time around them and they seem to like to be near us when we're working (other than taking care of their water) or sitting in their yard. Now this. We can't find much information on 'geese behavior'....Any ideas?

Do a search for Geese training. There is a really good post from OliveHill that explains what to do and how to read the body language of geese.

My gander isnt getting any better he already bite me 3 times and will be going to freezer camp and the other male hopefully will be sold as hes not mean but i cant afford him.

Oh man,,if I caught someone hitting any of y animals, I don't even want to say what would happen!!!
I had a child come here and chased my geese when they were out free ranging,,so I sent the kid home.

@Pandapaws23-I'm sorry your gander isn't getting better! @Kimberly35042-My gander just keeps coming, biting at the water.

I've begun putting the hose down into the pool and walking away. He goes after it with a vengeance! I think if it were alive, he would kill it! When I wash out the water dishes he still tries to go after it. I use a cane because I'm recovering from a broken hip and have begun using it to push (not hit!) him back while saying 'out' (like I would a dog). Some days I've had to actually push him over several times, but I think he may be getting the idea. I hope so, since I'm not an aggressive person and this has been difficult for me.

He still will go after my husband at different times. My husband has never hit him, but has walked into him, pushing him back and keeps walking until the gander turns and runs away (and sometimes keeps going after him). He has also grabbed him by the neck and pinned him to the ground. I'm afraid this has been more like a challenge to the gander...since he still goes after him personally, not just when he is taking care of the water.
