I have a 8 month old hen, no idea what breed she is?

Anyway, she has previously attacked my silkie hen, ripping out loads of feathers on her head (she has stopped this for now), but still chases her and runs at her. She runs and flaps at squirrels and birds who enter the garden. She doesn't cluck, but "screeches" and WILL NOT tolerate being held. She also does this thing where she flies on top of the coop (she is the only one that can do this, as the rest are silkies, and cannot fly) and kind of flies down, scaring the rest of the chickens? There is a rooster, she will not allow him to mate, I think she is even boss over him!

Does anyone else have a crazy hen?

Pic - There she is, "Blacky".

I have one that isn't that aggressive, but she did go after my son - once... he was filling the water containers and she went after him, so he turned the hose on her - she's been pretty laid back since.

Chicken stew sounds really good... I know that is not what everyone wants to hear, but you don't want/need an aggressive bird in your flock, nor do you want that aggressiveness being passed on to future generations.

Recently, there was an article about dealing with aggressive roo's - I wonder if the same techniques would work for your aggressive hen? Might be worth a try if you don't want to go the stew pot route first.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
