Aggressive male muscovy

An aggressive male can be very dangerous to the others. I would probably send him to freezer camp or isolate him if you have the room. I have 2 that are in their own area. They torment everything that walks the face of this earth. I have had them for 5 years and I am attached to them, so I did not want to re-home them or process them.

I breed "Scovies - and I've never had a "REALLY" aggressive one, but if I did it would only have the opportunity to bite once. Then it would be in the freezer. There are enough "NICE" drakes out there that there is no reason to keep a bad one.

Right now we have just over 40 (hatched over 60 this year), about 16 of which are males, and they rarely fight, and never bother me or hubby. 14 drakes will be in the freezer at the end of the month, and all but 8 ducks.

The meat is really fine and tasty, if cooked right. I tried a duck that was over a year and a half old and it was ghastly - so now I only eat them under 7 months.

Do really consider getting rid of him, and not by finding a new home, since the new owner would have the same problems that you are experiencing. Once they become aggressive, there is little chance of rehabilitation.

Good Luck

Have you got a hose pipe handy. Believe it or not but they dont like being sprayed with water. If you havnt they get a water pistol take it with, you will be surprised by it affect. If he comes near you just give him a spray. Try it!

I just got rid of my muscovy ducks because the drake suddenly got aggressive. I was kinda at my wits end with them anyways, just 'cause they were producing/doing anything to further our little homestead and had posted a thread to see if anyone had suggestions. They did have good suggestions and I was working on following through with them when my drake started attacking me and my rooster. I don't know why, but I turned my back for literally one second, and all the sudden I hear these weird sounds behind me. The drake was grabbing my roosters neck feathers and almost rolling over, so that he was twisting my roosters neck. I was afraid he would break it. So that was it. I was done. I sent one hen to live with a friend who had a lonely pekin girl and they are now happily keeping each other company. And, what's even better, she laid an egg the very next day and has been laying ever since! :th I guess they really didn't like it here. The others I sent to go live on another friend's pond. They absolutely love it there, and it's the perfect fit for them. So now everyone is happier. I'm gonna try again on ducks in the spring, only this time I'm getting 2 girls and I'm raising them from ducklings (I got the scovies as adults) so maybe that'll help.
By the way, you have beautiful scovies! :)

Hi everyone can anyone help me out.I have a moscovy duck one male and female.they are 4 months old.they were tiny babies when we brought them home.we named them rosy and male one nosy.they were so good until now.today my hubby, my dad and my brother build them new house.because they grew really big and thought that my female might lay eggs sooner. Because noticed they started mating.and once we removed the new house and put new one,my male duck got so aggressive all of a sudden on my hubby, dad and brother. But fine with.when I sit beside my male duck looks like he trying to say something.but as soon as my hubby comes upfront of him.he starts to chase him.don't know why.does anyone know this sudden behavior.

Likely because he sees them as a threat to his duck, competition. Not unusual behaviour for a drake especially with male people, mine are not to fond of my son or my husband either. All that said, going after people is NOT okay. They should pin him down similar to another drake, even a stick to push him back. My males STEP back when i come through, i am TOP drake here sounds silly but it's the truth, there has to be that line.

One doesn't have to be nasty but they take you in as a flock member and you can be hurt they are big birds and quite capable of harm, a pecking order is important.

My male moscovy is giving female a hard time.because he is big in size and female is tiny too so she is always loud and runing around and hiding from the male duck.so today my hubby bought 5 females and you don't Wanna know what happen he mated with all 5 of them turn by turn. I told my hubby it's like his x,ma's today.he was so exited with all five of them.

That phenomenon is called "Coolidge Effect" and applies to many male vertebrates, as chickens, rats and, in a certain way, humans for example.

I wonder where this aggressive behaviour comes from as long as the drake was not imprinted on humans because in that case it is very clear where what is responsible. Is it genetics? Are there aggressive bloodlines or is it just a behaviour that pops up randomly?

My drakes behave fine. My oldest drake is very tame and when I herd him into the shed at night I need to give him a little push now and then because he doesn't want to move, but he never attacks me. When he sees me he sometimes walks towards me and starts headbobbing, but I don't know whether he is just excited because I may bring food or whether he is greeting me.
His two sons try to rip off my fingers when I feed them treats, but that is no aggression at all. They actually get a little afraid of me when they think that I am after them.

I have 3 drakes that are breeding age and have seen how my drakes act towards my ducks sometimes it looks like they are being so mean, like my 2yrs old drake will chase down his girls and stand on top of them not mating but just stand on them. they are flat on the ground too, But they love him and know they belong to him, I haven't seen that behavior from my 1yrs old but he isn't as dominant as his daddy not yet anyways. My oldest drake at 9yrs use to stand on his girls too so I'm thinking this is maybe the drakes way of just saying your mine. I don't know but sometimes we can see behaviors and not quite understand what's going on. oh and they only do this particular thing with their own girls I have never seen my 2yr old do this with any of the other ducks but his 3.
