Hi Guys,
We've got a problem. We found two orphaned chicks last year, tried to get an agency to take them, but they weren't considered wild birds, so we kept them and raised them. The male took off at 7 months old, never to be seen again. He differentiated really well.
The female stayed a year, then took off for five months. Now she's back, but down the block at our neighbor's house and won't leave. Our neighbor loves her, but if any kids come in her yard, she pecks at them. Obviously she thinks they're peacocks.
It's totally our fault. We didn't know what we were doing. But this is the situation we have now. She can't stay in a neighborhood environment.
Does anyone know of a peacock sanctuary in Florida? Alternatively, we will drive her anywhere that will take her. She's a wonderful bird that just wants to be near people (again, totally our fault). If we had lots of land and could keep her on our property, we would train it out of her, but there is no way to keep her here and there is going to be one incident too many at some point, which will most likely get her picked up and euthanized.
